AI Software Learns a Simple Task Like a Human

“But what’s been lost is that intelligence isn’t just about classifying or recognizing; it’s about thinking”. Traditional pattern recognition algorithms today represent concepts as configurations of pixels or collections of features, but the Bayesian approach learns “generative models” of processes in the real world, so learning is like “model building” or “explaining” the data provided to the algorithm. Brenden Lake, the study’s lead author and a Moore-Sloan Data Science Fellow at New York University, said the algorithm can lead to the development of better learning machines.
