AI: To be or not to be

Companies are racing towards creating artificial intelligence. Are we ready for it? Telephone rings. It’s a female telemarketer with a pleasant voice asking the customer to buy some insurance plan or other. The man answering the phone responds and she provides the proper answer. Then the conversation takes a strange turn when he asks, “Are you a robot?” The female voice on the other end says, “What?! No I am a real person.” Think this is science fiction? Well think again because it actually happened ( and if IBM, Google and Microsoft have their say in the matter, most of our support calls – no matter how convincingly human it sounds – could be from a robot.
