Alibaba’s artificial intelligence platform aids machine learning without need for coding
DT PAI gives users the ability to create applications that can generate forecasts of user behaviour
Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba and its Aliyun cloud computing business has revealed an artificial intelligence service that gives developers access to machine and deep learning techniques without requiring coding.
Dubbed DT PAI, the platform is based on the algorithms used by Alibaba in its e-commerce business, and gives users the ability to create applications that can generate forecasts of user behaviour and industry trends, all through a modular components and a drag-and-drop interface.
Wei Xiao, senior product manager at Aliyun, said the goal of DT PAI is to create a one-stop artificial intelligence development, publishing, and sharing platform through using data, calculations, and data connections.
“In the past, the field of artificial intelligence was only open to a very small number of qualified developers and required the use of specialised tools. Such an approach was prone to error and redundancy,” added Xiao.
The company is claiming DT PAI is China’s first cloud-powered artificial intelligence platform.
DT PAI will be launched as a free public trial powered by the Aliyun public cloud, which will put it in completion with other public clouds sporting machine learning services, including Amazon Machine Learning powered by its AWS cloud platform which has received European availability, and Microsoft Azure Machine learning.
While Alibaba’s primary source of revenue is its e-commerce business, the company has invested $1bn into cloud computing to extend its reach into Japan, Europe and the Middle East. So expanding the capabilities of Aliyun will help it push its public cloud into regions beyond its Chinese home nation.
Alibaba and Aliyun will also have to go against Microsoft’s Cortana Analytics Suite which sports machine learning via the Azure cloud and makes use of the Cortana virtual assistant.
