Apple acquires AI startup Turi

Apple has acquired a machine learning and artificial startup, Turi, likely to enhance its products’ AI capabilities. In a statement to recode, a technology website, Apple confirmed the reports. They said, “Apple buys small companies from time to time and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.” The Seattle-based startup, was formerly known as Dato and GraphLab. According to GeekWire, Apple has bought the startup for around $200 million. In June, Tim Cook also spoke on the importance of machine learning at Worldwide Developer Conference. Moreover, he also hinted Apple’s plans to open up Siri to developers. It’s still unclear what Apple plans to do with Turi, but speculations are being made that the acquisition would help improve Siri to interact with people.
