Apple Purchases AI Learning Platform Turi

According to Bloomberg, Apple has purchased AI startup Turi Inc. for about $200 million. Makers of a machine learning platform on which analysis software can be built, the Seattle-based Turi raised more than $25 million from investors before the purchase. Information about the acquisition has been quiet. Apple told GeekWire, which originally uncovered the sale, that “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans,” and Turi declined to comment. Anonymous sources allegedly close to the deal said that Apple wants to take advantage of Turi’s artificial intelligence research and to build a stronger connection to the AI research community.
