Facebook wants to take on Google and Siri with ‘Moneypenny’ – its own artificial intelligence assistant

We’ve been expecting you Mr. Zuckerberg, welcome to the world of AI assistants.

Looking to bring the fight to Apple, Google and Microsoft (the bunker-dwelling villains in this scenario), Facebook has lifted the lid on its own personal voice assistant.

Formally known as ‘M’, the Siri, Google Now and Cortana rival was reportedly developed under the codename ‘Moneypenny’ in a not so subtle nod to Bond’s iconic assistant.

Set to be be based within the company’s Messenger application, Facebook M will offer a more natural user experience, hosting the ability to complete tasks on behalf of its human master – sounds a little sinister, right?

“Unlike other AI-based services in the market, M can actually complete tasks on your behalf,” said Facebook VP David Marcus.

“It’s powered by artificial intelligence that’s trained and supervised by people.”

Facebook said that M is currently in testing and does not have a rollout date yet.
