Faculty HighlightsOctober 30, 2016 Kathleen Cullen Growing up as one of four daughters in a suburban Boston family, Kathleen Cullen bonded with her engineer father over their shared love of science and physics. “I would hang out with him and help build Heathkit TVs,” recalls Cullen, who joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering in July as a professor with joint appointments in Otolaryngology and Neuroscience. “From very early on, my dad supported my passion for science.” Cullen began undergraduate studies at Brown University focused on electrical engineering but was intrigued when she heard that neurons use electricity and started taking neuroscience courses, shifting her focus to bioengineering and neuroscience. She continued neurobiology studies in a doctoral program at the University of Chicago and a fellowship at the Montreal Neurological Institute.…
