Google CEO: Why we’re not worried about Amazon’s Echo

Google may be behind in coming to market with a voice-powered personal assistant. But CEO Sundar Pichai points out that Google has won in numerous markets where it wasn’t first. Online maps, email and even search existed before Google had products in those area. Now, Google is the world’s most valuable internet company and dominates digital advertising. At the Code Conference on Wednesday, Pichai said Google is taking a “very long-term view” when it comes to putting artificial intelligence into devices and making it usable for consumers. Amazon may be first with Echo, but there’s plenty of time. “We’re at the 1 percent state of what we can do here,” Pichai said on stage at the event in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
