IBM, Google Join Hands to Take on Intel

International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM), Alphabet Inc (GOOGL), and seven others joined hands on Friday, October 14 to unveil a new interface to take on Intel Corporation (INTC). The new open specification is likely to enhance data center server performance by up to 10 times. Other members to join the new consortium included Dell Inc. (DELL), Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD), Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. (MLNX), Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. (HPE), NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA), Xilinx, Inc. (XLNX), and Micron Technology, Inc. (MU). The new standard would be known as Open Coherent Accelerator Processor Interface (OpenCAPI).
