As summer marches inexorably towards fall, Christine Stittsworth returns to her fourth grade classroom in Wichita, Kansas, to prepare for the next batch of young minds she has been assigned to mold. Teaching is never easy, and Stittsworth has it harder than many. Her school serves many low-income students—93% receive free or reduced cost lunches—and many know more about drug addiction, violence, and neglect than any child should.
