‘Learned’ drones help out in search for people lost in forests

Rescue teams involved with finding people lost in forests may soon have a helping hand capable of following forest trails better than humans. Using artificial intelligence, a team of researchers from Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence and the University of Zurich has created a software that can teach drones to be efficient and autonomous trail followers and lost people finders. Researchers involved with the project are hopeful that very soon drones could be flying alongside and in most cases ahead of rescue teams to find people lost in the wild. Complex environments are challenging for autonomous flights of drones and that’s one thing where researchers are increasingly paying attention to.
