Microsoft Completes SwiftKey Buy

Finalized yesterday, Microsoft’s acquisition of SwiftKey does more than bring a popular Android and iOS app into the Redmond family. It also expands Microsoft’s machine learning chops with the addition of SwiftKey’s neural network technologies. Since London-based SwiftKey first launched its predictive typing app for Android in 2010 (it released an iOS version in 2014), the application has been put to work on more than 300 million devices. In addition to being downloaded by individual users, the app was also integrated into Samsung’s smartphones beginning with the launch of the Galaxy S4 in 2013.Microsoft’s acquisition of SwiftKey highlights the company’s goal of providing mobile and cloud-based tools and services to users on platforms beyond Windows.
