MIT builds machine that ‘learns’ like a human

It will go a long way in bridging the gap between machine learning and human learning. Now, scientists have managed to develop an algorithm that makes robots learn like humans do. For instance, a person could learn how to do a proper deadlift in a gym in just a few tips from a personal trainer. Up to now, computers haven’t had one program applicable to every situation, but rather a complex of different learning programs for each circumstance, Tenenbaum said during the same conference call. Now, US scientists have created a computer model, or algorithm, that captures the unique human ability to grasp new concepts in a study that involved learning unfamiliar handwritten alphabet characters.
