Neither Artificial Nor Intelligent

Some people say there’s no such thing as an original thought, only derivations from previous thoughts but, when we see originality, we recognise and appreciate it. And I don’t see much any evidence of original thinking from any machine. So it’s a misnomer to call this stuff intelligence. The White House report is very exercised by the social consequences of what it calls AI which is mainly about automating jobs. So it’s pretty much the same debate as the UK government was having in the late 70s about whether we should it be educating people for leisure. The thought was that the microprocessor would put everyone on a three day week. Instead, everyone had to work a bloody sight harder.
