Nest System Can Now Sense If Anyone Is Home

Nest got a little bit smarter – and creepier – with its most recent software update. The update, called Home/Away Assist, lets devices use phone geolocation data, built-in sensors, and machine learning techniques to sense if anyone is home. Home/Away is meant to make the system more efficient – turning the heat on when someone comes home and only running audible tests on the Nest Protect when no one is around. According to the blog post, it’s not going to track users’ location; it will just sense if they’re home or not. Nest also announced a new Family feature that lets multiple users control the system without sharing logins or passwords. So don’t worry, if mom is away, Nest will still keep the heat on for her spouse and kids.…
