Neuroscience Institute to Launch in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD – The Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield is launching a new, multispecialty clinic that will be staffed by over 50 neuroscience providers. This new institute, known as the Neuroscience Institute (NSI), will consist of SIU’s departments of neurology, neurosurgery and psychiatry consolidated into a single-site outpatient clinical care center. NSI will provide care for patients with brain and spine disorders ranging from strokes and anxiety to Alzheimer’s disease and Lou Gehrig’s disease. Psychiatry and psychology services will also be available. The institute’s executive director James Gilchrist explains this will be the only state-approved, academically based, single-site neuroscience center in the state of Illinois.
