This week scientists at MIT announced a breakthrough in Artificial Intelligence (AI) that puts deep learning at the centre of mobile technology. For the moment devices like smart cars, smartphones, and wearables are typically not efficient enough to perform complex tasks, like facial recognition, without being connected to the internet. But MIT’s findings could be a major moment that accelerates the take-up of the Internet of Things (IoT). Essentially, machine or deep learning on a mobile device is modelled on the anatomy of the human brain.
