Robots created by MIT researchers capable of working in unity

MIT researchers have unveiled a new system of three robots that can work in unity and accurately deliver various items in a disaster area, a hospital, and even in a restaurant or bar.

The team of researchers at MIT’s Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) used a “PR2 robot” as a bartender and a couple “Turtlebots” as waiters, and demonstrated how the three could work together in a bar situation.

Ariel Anders, a graduate student at the prestigious institution, told reporters that it would be desirable to have one robot to go to one room and the other two to get the drinks, without having to monitor their every move in the whole process.

One of the three robots successfully opened beer, while the other two took orders from patrons and served them in the demonstration.

Chris Amato, one of the researchers who worked on the experiment, said, “Almost all real world problems have some form of uncertainty baked into them. As a result, there is a huge range of areas where these planning approaches could be of help.”

The researchers said they managed to develop planning algorithms that coordinated groups of robots to perform tasks with just a description of the task by programming them to see tasks as a series of macro-actions involving multiple steps.
