Samsung, SKT accelerating global AI assistant market race

By Yoon Sung-wonSamsung Electronics and SK Telecom are pushing for artificial intelligence (AI)-based assistant service business to keep up with the aggressive drives by global IT giants such as Google, Amazon and Microsoft.Samsung Electronics, which has already adopted the voice-recognizing assistant service “S Voice” for its Galaxy smartphones, announced Thursday its acquisition of Silicon Valley-based AI platform development firm VIV Labs.Highlighting VIV Labs’ open AI platform, natural language recognition and machine learning technologies, Samsung Electronics said they can contribute to the integration of all Samsung devices and services. The electronics maker stressed that its long-term goal is to connect not only its mobile devices but also conventional home appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners and washing machines under an integrated voice-recognizing AI system.SK Telecom rolled out its voice-recognizing AI home…
