The future of artificial intelligence technology

There is a thought that robots may take over people jobs, but the development of a such complex intelligence will require that machines should be given some variant of human consciousness. Systems that do not possess self-awareness and sentience will at best always be very brittle or even dangerous.

Scientists struggle to achieve these unique human characteristics, to be able to create truly useful and powerful robots. It’s more about the creation of humanoid robots, instead of mechanistic zombies.

These robots have its body shape built to resemble that of the human body. A humanoid design might be for functional purposes, such as interacting with human tools and environments, for experimental purposes, such as the study of bipedal locomotion, or for other purposes.

Expected, that they will possess self awareness, language skills, surface, shallow and deep knowledge about the world around them and their role within it. However, the field of artificial intelligence remains in its infancy.

Japan has already succeeded in reaching this goal.
From the very beginning, the Japanese companies and universities have been very interested in robotics. The main motivator for robots has been industrial and cultural. They are obsessed with making human-like robots. Japanese service-robots are more integrated in Japanese life than anywhere else. International Business Machines (IBM) had already presented an artificial intelligence product, Watson, that could become a Japanese banker. And, of course, everyone knows about Honda’s Asimo humanoid robot.

Creation artificial intelligence will make our lives easier and more productive, and it’s also raising some fears. There are advantages of artificial intelligence.

1. The tech giants (Google, Microsoft, etc.). Robots are helpful in speech recognition, as well as improving the way they create value out of their massive data.

2. Healthcare and Medicine. The development of artificial intelligence programs helps clinicians in making numerous diagnostic and therapeutic decisions as well as in successfully predicting the outcome of medical conditions. IBM will be using 30 billion images such as CT, x-ray, and MRI scans from Merge Healthcare Inc.

3. Entertainment and Media. Artificial intelligence has been a very popular characteristic element of some of the best and boldest films (The Matrix, Ex Machina, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Wars, Terminator, Bicentennial Man, I, Robot, A.I.).

4. Defense. The impact of artificial intelligence on the defense sector is remarkable. Researchers in the U.S. Army turned their focus to developing unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) integrated with artificial intelligence.

Despite the recent breakthroughs in artificial intelligence research, many experts believe some of the biggest advances in artificial intelligence are years, if not decades, away. As these systems improve, Horvitz said researchers are creating safeguards to ensure that AI systems will perform safely even in unforeseen situations.
