‘To The Strangers, From Far Away’ Review

Mallory Dobry ’17 / Emertainment Monthly Staff Writer Written by Emerson student Bailey Tamayo, To The Strangers, From Far Away documents the life of an AI as it explores the human world and experiences human emotions. Told in second person, the story pulls the reader into Pai’s experiences and tells the story not only from Pai’s perspective, but also, in a way, from the reader’s own perspective. They feel the calculations, visual experiences, and moments in Pai’s life, and also slowly see Pai’s transition from synthetic life programmed to fulfill needs, to a being that can create its own needs.
