Toyota to finance million ‘intelligent’ vehicle project

The Japanese automaker said Friday that it’s investing the money over five years, and it will be split evenly between the two universities. Pratt stressed that the $50 million allotted for the research centers isn’t the only investment Toyota is making in the artificial intelligence area. With this project, Toyota is aiming to use artificial intelligence technologies to monitor and aid a human driver instead of having the AI take over the driving task itself. “It’s about intelligent machines that play nice with humans”, said Stephen Eglash, a professor at the Stanford lab and director of the university’s Data Science Initiative.
