What Are NASA And Google Doing With A D-Wave 2X Quantum Computer?

Google announced today researchers found a quantum algorithm that has the capacity to solve problems 100 million times faster than simulated annealing in conventional processors.  “It is a truly disruptive technology that could change how we do everything,” said Rupak Biswas, director of exploration technology at NASA’s Ames Research Center. The new breakthrough focuses on quantum annealing, which in plain English is an optimization problem solving algorithm that determines the most efficient way to complete a certain task when presented with fluctuating variables. Compared to Simulated annealing solves the same problem, but does not always have the capacity to find the optimum or 100 percent best solution depending on the variables.
