Facebook’s AI Can Help the Blind “See” by Describing Images

Facebook Inc. has achieved a great feat in the study of artificial intelligence, but the company is not just doing it for profit. Mark Zuckerberg recently revealed that the company is working on a technology that will help the blind “see” images on screen.  “Our AI can now look at a photo, figure out what’s in it and help explain it to you,” the Facebook CEO wrote in a status post. “We see AI as helping computers better understand the world — so they can be more helpful to people.” The idea is to allow the blind to experience photographs like how regular people with five senses currently do. The technology will identify the objects featured on an image and then verbally describe it to the user.  I’m inspired by this…
