Qualcomm To Push Into Big Data Server Chips With 24-core ARM CPUs

Qualcomm Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) has reportedly started to deliver server chips samples to prospective clients, as it pushes forward in the emerging data center semiconductor market. According to DigiTimes, Qualcomm has built a set-up exclusively in Guizhou, China, to promote its latest product based on ARM architecture and could power Machine Learning and Big-Data mining applications. According to the company’s senior VP, Anand Chandrasekher, this purpose-built chip will initially boast 24 cores, with more to come in future. Currently, Qualcomm is said to be shipping test chips to unnamed customers, whereas the server chips’ commercial availability is yet to be disclosed. According to Mr. Chandrasekher, the company is expected to provide further updates during 2016, including codename and chipset’s model.
