Scientists create super-fast machine learning system for computers

Although the concept of machine learning strives to teach computers new things and have them “understand” these teachings, the process is generally imperfect and tedious. In many cases, about a hundred examples or more are needed in order to properly train a computer. But U.S. researchers have figured out a way to make machine learning much easier, allowing robots to learn much faster than they normally do. “It has been very difficult to build machines that require as little data as humans when learning a new concept,” said researcher Ruslan Salakhutdinov, assistant professor of Computer Science at the University of Toronto in a statement. “Replicating these abilities is an exciting area of research connecting machine learning, statistics, computer vision, and cognitive science.” The big test for the computers involved in…
