Mr McEwen, 10 years later, receiving his PhD. PHOTO/SUPPLIED It has been 10 years since former Rotorua Boys’ High School student Leon McEwen graduated as the top scholar of his year. Now, Dr McEwen, formerly known as Hayden, has just completed his PhD in neuroscience and is working as an analyst for the police. Dr McEwen told the Rotorua Daily Post about his education journey since being awarded dux for the class of 2005 at Rotorua Boys’ High School. “I went straight into university and completed a first class honours degree in human reproduction and development. I got offereda PhD scholarship from the Maurice Wilkins centre for bio-discovery in the field of neuroscience, focusing on diabetes and schizophrenia.” Dr McEwen did this work through both Otago and Auckland universities.He said…
